Common Questions & Answers

Captain Jonny's Epic Charters wants every passenger to be as comfortable as possible with us before embarking on one of our boat charters. Below are answers to common questions.

Where should I meet Captain Jonny?

Unless special arrangements are made, please meet us at the:
Alsdorf Park Public Boat Launch
2901 NE 14th St.
Pompano Beach, FL33062

How many people are allowed on board?

Our OUPV Captain's License allows us to carry 6 guests in addition to our team.

What safety measures can we expect?

Be assured that we meet all safety regulations and carry life vests for all passengers. We travel with flairs and fire extinguishers. In addition, Captain Jonathan Featherston is licensed and certified by the U.S. Coast Guard, having trained at Sea School in Fort Lauderdale and passed the required exam. The Sea School he attended is considered the nation's premier maritime training school.

Captain Jonny's training included all practical aspects of boating including "rules of the road," radio operation, survival techniques, distress signaling, boating terminology, boat equipment, use of flairs, use of life jackets, techniques of seamanship, anchoring, navigation, aids to navigation, boat registration, knot tying, firefighting and more - before passing a proctored exam.

We are committed to safe boat operations and navigation.

What should I bring with me?

You are not required to bring anything along, although you might enjoy having a sweatshirt in the event you feel chilled by the wind.

What can I expect on the boat?

We keep a cooler of bottled water on board for our guests. Comforts include vinyl bench cushions and a Bimini cover over the center console. Below is a private cabin and bench area in case passengers need to lie down or require privacy to use the Port-a-Potty. We also keep a first aid kit on board in case of emergency.

What is the Millionaire Mile and why is it popular?

A perfect cruise destination, Millionaire Mile is a premier stretch of coastline situated between Boca Raton and Pompano Beach. This luxury locale is home to some of the world’s most exclusive beachside residential developments, including Hillsboro Beach. The area boasts private boat slips and stunning waterscape. Our guests marvel at the gorgeous homes and scenic views.

What kind of fish, sea life and birds might I see or catch?

Fish are plentiful in the region's beautiful and warm waters. Depending on the season, lucky Off-Shore anglers might reel in mahi mahi, wahu, tuna, sailfish, grouper, pompano or mackerel to name a few. The Pompano Beach stretch of the Intracoastal Waterway is home to tarpon, snooks, jacks, and snappers, among others.

The area abounds with lush mangrove and palm tree filled landscapes. Our waterways and beaches are home to wildlife, such as herons, ibis, terns, and pelicans, sea turtles, crustaceans, and big and small fish.

Please Note: Captain Jonny's Charters does not guarantee that anyone will catch fish. However on fishing expeditions, we use our knowledge of the waters, the seasons and the best equipment and bait to increase our guests' chances for success.

May I bring children? Are there any age restrictions?

Of course, you may! We enjoy teaching children about the wonders of the water, our local ecosystem, and respect for this awesome natural resource. As with all passengers, we take child safety seriously and provide child-sized life vests and follow U.S. Coast Guard approved safety regulations for all children aboard.

We do not have an age restriction. If you plan to bring an infant or toddler or older child aboard, please take your normal precautions against sun and weather conditions by bringing proper clothing, sunscreen, and required baby provisions.

May I bring my dog?

Yes, with a caveat. If your dog is friendly and won't be spooked by the motion of the water, feel free to bring your pet aboard. Be aware that ocean spray, wind and motor sounds may trigger a pet's anxiety. Many dogs are fine on the water. It is important that you know your pet well and understand it's behavior. Please be sure your pet's vaccinations are current and use a leash. Also be aware that pets can become hot in the sun and should be properly hydrated. We also recommend that you bring a pet flotation device (life vest) along, since we do not stock them. Captain Jonny's does not assume liability for pets on board.

What happens in the event of inclement weather?

Bad weather, including rain and/or high winds, or hurricane forecasts and other surf advisories may result in the need to cancel a cruise. This is at the Captain's discretion. If Captain Jonny must cancel due to weather (or any other reason), you will receive a full refund or may apply your payment to a future cruise. All refunds are subject to Management approval.

What is your refund policy?

We respect all of our customers and strive for fairness in every transaction. In the rare event that Captain Jonny cancels a cruise, you will receive a full refund, or you may apply your payment to a future cruise. If you must cancel your cruise, a full refund will be given only if we receive 72-hour notice. A partial refund may be allowed if less notice is given, depending on notification time, on a case-by-case basis. All refunds are subject to Management approval.
